Welcome to the Lavender Baby Nurse online training course!  We are excited about the launch of this program and hope that it provides a good foundation for the wonderful work you’re going to be doing with moms and babies at home.

How it works

Each week you’ll have access to a new module.  The modules cover a variety of topics, from infant care basics, to postpartum recovery, to reading with baby.  While some of the content will feel like a review of what you already know, it is always beneficial to learn material again, sometimes with a different perspective.  Other topics will be brand new and may require more of your own independent research to fully understand.  This course is not designed to teach you everything you need to know about taking care of moms and babies, but rather to augment the knowledge you already have and are actively gaining through your clinical experiences and other work.

You’ll have 1 week to complete each module and the related assignments.  The due date will be listed with each one.  If you aren’t able to complete the module on time for whatever reason, just let us know by email, along with the timeframe in which you will be able to complete it.  We know that you are busy and have other classes, work, etc.  However, it’s important to keep up with the course, as the material builds upon previous modules and we want to have you trained and ready to work as soon as possible.  You can complete the assignments faster if you’d like, it’s up to you!   Feedback for each module will be emailed to you within 1 week of submission.

Completion of the ENTIRE course is required before your first placement.

Assessment

Each module will be accompanied by quizzes, additional reading, and reflection exercises.    These are designed to assess your learning and allow you to process the information in a variety of different ways.  Our goal is for you to not just understand the material on a surface level, but also to think about how you would apply it in actual situations.  We also want you to be highly knowledgeable in different areas of maternal/newborn care, so that you can accurately explain concepts to families and back them up with research when needed.

Feedback

You’ll receive feedback on your quizzes and other assignments, to help make sure you’re learning what you need to know and answer any questions you have.  Remember that this is not a graded course, simply a training to help best prepare you for a new role.  Please ask questions as you go through, share your ideas, and let us know when you find an interesting article or learn something new in another related class.  We want you to get the most out of the course and are very interested in what you have to contribute!  At Lavender, continual learning is an essential part of our role, and we are continually working to keep up to date on the latest and best evidenced based practice!
